2011 Summit

Activists map strategy for 2012

About 120 grassroots activists from across South Carolina gathered in West Columbia for our day-long strategy summit Oct. 29. “It was uplifting to me to see people from all over the state fighting for a common cause,” said Network Co-chair Virginia Sanders. “It was great to be surrounded by others of like mind.”

The group agreed that our strategic focus for the coming legislative session would be comprehensive tax reform to raise revenue to fund critical services. The Network will be coordinating a plan “A” and plan “B” for the state budget. Plan A will be a budget that reflects our values. Plan B will be a budget that has a chance of passing the legislature. Meanwhile, we are putting together a road show to take the message into communities across South Carolina.

Also in the works is a State House rally targeting the Legislature when they take up the budget next year. A budget working group has been formed and will present options. Let us know if you have skills or concerns to share with the group.

The Network also will continue its campaign against the voter ID law, and will schedule Missing Voter Project trainings and registration drives in the coming months.
