Mission Statement

The South Carolina Progressive Network, created in April 1995, is a coalition of grassroots groups that have joined forces to create a new majority in South Carolina.

The Network is a multi-issue, multicultural nonprofit venture created to strengthen progressive alliances, to promote voter education and participation, and to support grassroots groups and projects across the state.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the South Carolina Progressive Network is to promote - through education and action - human, civil, and workers' rights, environmental protection and government reform.

Human Rights

  • Promote and defend policies of tolerance and inclusiveness to protect individuals against discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, disability, age or other categorizations used to diminish one group for the benefit of others.
  • Protect women's reproductive rights.

Environmental Protection

  • Promote policies that consider safe food, clean air and clean water a basic right.
  • Oppose environmental policies and practices that disproportionately impact poor and minority citizens.
  • Support full disclosures of environmental information and timely public participation in decisions that threaten public health.

Workers' Rights

  • Support workers' rights to a safe workplace and a livable wage.
  • Defend the right of workers to organize.

Government Reform

  • Support campaign finance reform that reduces the influence money plays in politics, and work for true democracy.
  • Expand progressive influence on state government by educating the public and challenging politicians on the issues.
