The recent rip off of the SC ETV broadband spectrum reflects the influence of money on politics in the Palmetto state. Sen. McConnell brags about the state making $145 million, over 30 years, for leasing out the nation's only state wide public system. Last year the state and local governments spent over $75 million for telecommunications services that could be run over a public system.

While we save $145 million, we will spend $2.2 BILLION with the telcoms that dropped over $300,000 in campaign contributions to state legislators last year.

Follow the money...

I'm so proud of our friends in NC. They've helped us model our own clean elections campaign in SC, but we can't seem to get any traction. Still, I'm inspired by their example and haven't given up hope that we can -- someday, some way -- see similar campaign finance reform in the Palmetto State.
