To join what is shaping up to be a \nwonderfully diverse class, please submit your application by Monday, \nMarch 1. So convinced of the school\u2019s importance, Melanie used her  recent birthday to encourage her friends to donate. \u201cI would love to fund a scholarship to this year\u2019s Modjeska School,&#8221; she wrote. \u201cIt  literally brings to life SC history, and the class camaraderie brings hope and action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(We welcome donations of any amount to help pay for student scholarships and stipends for guest speakers. Bethel<\/strong>,  who attended in 2018. The school helped focus her interest in women\u2019s rights. After graduating, she relaunched, and currently leads, the Columbia NOW chapter. \u201cLooking at politics from a historical lens is  important. We fight against immigration enforcement measures that seek to criminalize our communities and incentivizes law enforcement agencies to cage our people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nvlupin.blob.core.windows.net\/images\/van\/AV\/AV001\/1\/38479\/images\/154848512_183341293219406_3856054188725550083_n.png\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Fuerza Jirasol holds workshop at the Network&#8217;s HQ, before the pandemic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur local group is called <strong>Fuerza Jirasol<\/strong>.\u00a0We raise our own funds, and use them to leverage our community&#8217;s power to get things done.\u00a0We have conducted outreach in out communities, and even in a pandemic we were able to work to register Latinx votes and get them to the polls.\u00a0Also during the pandemic, we were able to secure a small grant from<strong> Mijente <\/strong>to do the ground work for starting our own Traditional Embroidery Cooperative business, <strong>Bordados Jirasol<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Network has supported these efforts  by serving as our fiscal sponsors and an incubator for us to take the  next step to establish our own 501c(3).\u00a0These projects and initiatives  were seeded within the Modjeska Simkins School.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"420\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scpronet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/robert-greene.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6139\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scpronet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/robert-greene.jpg 420w, https:\/\/www.scpronet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/robert-greene-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scpronet.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/robert-greene-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><figcaption>Dr. Robert Greene<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Robert Greene<\/strong>, who  teaches history at Claflin University in Orangeburg, will lead the  session, which will be held on Zoom. Last year\u2019s graduate <strong>Lillian Boatwright <\/strong>is a fan. \u201cHands down, he is my favorite lecturer in any course I have  taken.
