Depending on interest, it may become a monthly feature, along with our regular music\u00a0workshops. (Jazz 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 8\u201310. Blues 2nd and 4th Thursdays, 7:30\u201310:30. Note that we&#8217;ve added an hour to blues night.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In honor of national&nbsp;Poetry Month, the first open mic will be anchored by poet&nbsp;<strong>Dr. Ed Madden<\/strong>, who served a long stint on the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/scpronet.com\/?emci=97597b39-1f40-f111-8ef2-000d3a14b640&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\">SC Progressive Network<\/a>\u2019s board and is a frequent guest at the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/modjeskaschool.com\/?emci=97597b39-1f40-f111-8ef2-000d3a14b640&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\">Modjeska Simkins School<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Madden teaches English at the University of South Carolina, where he was former director of the Women\u2019s and Gender Studies Program. From 2015 until 2022, he served as Columbia\u2019s first poet laureate. Also on tap is Serbian&nbsp;<strong>Sasha Struhas<\/strong>, a gifted guitar player and another GROW regular, who will play what he calls \u201cgypsy music.\u201d And you won&#8217;t want to miss our friend&nbsp;<strong>Steve Hait<\/strong>, who will share&nbsp;an original tune or two on his ukelele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want a turn at the mic, come early and sign up. How much time you get will depend on how many folks show up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As usual, we will have nibbles&nbsp;made&nbsp;in-house by our chef&nbsp;<strong>Leisa Marie Greer<\/strong>, and a selection of beverages for suggested donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GROW is at 1340 Elmwood Ave. in downtown Columbia.
